Nestled between Estepona ‘the garden of Andalucía’ and Manilva on the most westerly tip of the Costa del Sol, Casares is one of the least well-known destinations on Spain’s Mediterranean coast. Casares Municipality comprises spans 160 square kilometres and has two distinct areas: the hillside village of Casares Pueblo, a charming inland white washed village located 435 metres above sea level, and Casares Costa with its fantastic Blue Flag Beaches.
The beautiful whitewashed village has a population of only 3,000 people, which makes it all the more surprising that there is such a relatively large choice of restaurants. Although only a short 20-minute drive from beaches of Casares Costa, you could be mistaken for thinking it is an a completely different universe, as the pueblo is surround by untouched countryside, which is ripe for exploring. taking in the pure fresh air and panoramic views.
If you head towards the coast, you’ll come across Casares Costa’s fantastic Blue Flag beaches; Playa Chica, Piedra Paloma and Playa Ancha. Here you can try the delicious fresh seafood served in the chiringuitos dotted along the beach, there is also a small selection of international restaurants and bars.
There is no shortage of golf courses in and around Casares. The original golf courses in Casares; Doña Julia Golf and Casares Costa Golf opened in 2005 and 2008 respectively, are still favourites amongst international golfers on the Costa del Sol looking for affordable golf properties.
However, it is, Finca Cortesín that has the highest profile and hosted the World Match Play Golf Championship in 2009, 2011 and 2012 and the Solheim Cup in 2023.
